Junior Nanny
Hire a Junior Nanny…
A Junior Nanny is a great childcare solution for families with less needs.

A Junior Nanny is a confident, Live In candidate who is passionate about working with children.
They will have experience working with children in some capacity but not necessarily formal Nannying experience. The most common experience Junior Nannies have is babysitting - usually regular or long term.
We also see a lot of nursery workers wanting to make the change to one-to-one care, so many junior nannies will have an ECE (Early Childhood Education) background - or they might have been an Au Pair, a Teaching Assistant at a school, or a Camp Counsellor.
A Junior Nanny will live in your family home on a full time basis. They are a great option if you need flexibility but not the long hours or experience level of a Live In Nanny. Our Junior Nannies like to be part of a family but are also very respectful of a family's privacy and family time.
If a Junior Nanny sounds right for you but you don’t want someone to Live In your home, a Family Assistant might be what you’re looking for.If you want a more experienced Live In Nanny, read about our senior Live In Nannies.

Junior Nannies are great for families who have school aged children or for a shared charge role working alongside a parent or other caregiver.
A junior nanny is responsible for all standard Nanny Duties and admin - anything to do with the children.
You can expect a Junior live in Nanny to work up to 45 hours per week with 1-2 nights of babysitting per week between Mon-Thurs included in the salary.
Be sure to arrange this in advance so your Nanny can plan her own life as well! -
Junior Nanny Salaries vary depending on the candidate's experience, but current market rates range from £350 to £500 gross per week.
As with Live-In Nanny salaries, the range is dictated by the requirements of the job, the hours and workload and the level of experience/qualificatlons of the nanny.
The main things for you to consider when working out an appropriate salary are:
The level of responsibility required in the role
The number and ages of children being looked after
The level of experience or qualifications you require your Nanny to have
Any ‘extra’ duties you require
A standard Junior role is up to 45 hours per week and includes 1-2 nights of babysitting.
National minimum wage guidelines from April ’23 require that a nanny of age 21 or over must receive the “main rate” of at least £10.18hr gross. A nanny aged 23 or over would be covered by the Living Wage and must receive £10.42/hr gross. A nanny aged 18 to 20 must receive at least the “development rate” of £7.49 per hour gross. These rates are usually increased every April.
If a nanny is provided with accommodation, an employer can offset some of the cost of this against the nanny’s wage for national minimum wage purposes. It should be noted however that the maximum allowable offset is £9.10 for each day accommodation is provided (£63.70 per week). -
There’s actually quite a lot that we look for in our Junior Nannies.
Along with some relevant experience, we are also looking for good general knowledge of childcare and education, common sense, confidence. Also their attitude and personality are big considerations.
A Kindred Junior Nanny has to be passionate about working with children, and serious about taking the next step in their childcare career with a Junior Nanny role.
Our Juniors are often confident well beyond their experience and able to step in quickly to the role.
They'll either be native english speakers or have a high level of english. When the decision isn’t just about what experience or qualifications someone has on paper, we come across fantastic candidates with a real spark for child development and working with children - we call them 'career nannies in the making'.
We boast some fantastic Junior Nannies! Especially popular are our Juniors from New Zealand and Australia.
Our Junior Nannies are Live In, but the qualities of a Junior Candidate are the same for our Family Assistants who are live out Nannies.

All Live In nanny roles incorporate full time board and food as part of the salary package.
A Junior Nanny must be provided with a private bedroom and bathroom (or in some instances a shared bathroom with the children/family)
It’s important that the bedroom is theirs at all times, even on weekends and holidays or if you have friends or family coming to stay.
Some families are able to offer their nanny separate accommodation close to the family home; if this is the case they will provide food or a food allowance for the nanny.
