What does a Nanny do?

The term ‘Nanny Duties’ is used a lot when discussing a Nanny role. But what exactly are Nanny Duties?

Below we outline the basic expectations in a Nanny Role - in a nutshell, it’s anything to do with the children!

These standard duties can be edited and personalised based on your own requirements when clarifying your Job Description, but bear in mind anything extra will will need to be clearly outlined.

Nanny Duties

  • Childcare

    The primary role of a Kindred Nanny is to take care of the children. Ensuring their safety, health and happiness is the main priority!

  • Educational Activities

    Nannies organise educational & developmental activities, such as reading, arts & crafts and educational games. They will help school aged children with homework & assignments.

  • Meals

    Your Nanny can do the weekly meal planning and shopping for the children’s food. They will prepare and serve meals for the chidren, considering any restrictions or preferences.

  • Transport

    A Nanny’s role often involves transporting children to and from school, activities, playdates and other appointments. Usually a Nanny car is provided or f the nanny is a non-driver, public transport costs are recouped.

  • Light Housekeeping

    It’s typical for the Nanny to complete light housekeeping tasks related to the children such as laundry, cleanup after meals, maintaining play areas and bedrooms, emptying bins and dishwasher and a general sense of initiative arond the house.

  • Upkeep 'stuff'

    Nannies are often responsible for managing children’s clothes, toys and equipment. They can declutter outdated or outgrown items and address repairs or replacements.

  • Support

    Nannies play a crucial role in the emotional well-being of the children, providing comfort, support and positive interactions. Giving the cuddles when you can’t!

  • Communication

    Nannies keep parents informed about children’s activities, milestones and concerns or issues that arise. They can be the go-between with teachers and parents.
