  • They will keep the after-school routine running smoothly!

Usually during term time a Family Assistant will start in the early afternoon, completing family assistant duties such as preparing the evening meal or doing the children's laundry, before the school run and the routine of activities, homework, chores and dinnertime begins.

They will be there to support the children with their homework at any level, make sure they are getting to their clubs and activities on time, and preparing healthy nutritious meals.

The minimised hours can mean there is not time for all standard Nannying duties to be completed, so it’s important to consider what duties you would like done before the children get home from school and choose your afternoon start time accordingly.

In the school holidays a Family Assistant will work full days - the schedule of hours can be agreed between family and nanny but usually encompasses a full week of 50hrs.

Expected duties can be stepped up during the school holidays; as long as there’s time around all the fun holiday activities!

  • The salary for a Family Assistant is based on an hourly rate of between £18-£22ph and then averaged out over the year to account for the long hours in the school holidays/ shorter hours during term time.

To give you an idea of how that looks monthly at £21 per hour -

    • 14 weeks of school holidays: full time @ 50hrs per week = 700hrs

    • 38 weeks of term time: part time @ 25hrs per week = 950hrs

    • 700 + 950 = 1650hrs @ £21ph = £34,650/12 = £2887.5 pcm

You’ll be looking at paying a minimum of £2300 gross per month for a junior nanny in this type of role Of course salaries can vary depending on the type of skills and experience you are requiring.
